Environmental markets: Alpiq leads the way
Climate change and the urgent need to reduce emissions in line with the Kyoto Protocol are posing major challenges to countries across the world.
Alpiq has built up extensive expertise in emerging environmental markets through its sales and trading activities across Europe.
The company focuses its activities primarily on trading in CO2 and credits arising from projects in the context of the flexible mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol, the Joint Implementation Program and Clean Development Mechanism.
Trading in green certificates draws on in-depth expertise developed through Alpiq's production, sales and trading activities. Alpiq engages on the one hand in markets with legally-defined minimum targets such as Italy, UK, Belgium and Romania, and on the other hand in markets where certificates are voluntarily used for electricity labelling and marketing purposes. Alpiq also provides independent producers as well as companies outside the energy sector with access to the certificates market.
Europe-wide trading activities are carried out in close collaboration with local authorities so as to optimise our customers' "Green Energy" portfolios.
We offer solutions in the following markets:
- Guarantees of origin (GOO) from renewable sources from Switzerland or Europe
- RECS Renewable Energy Certificate System
- Certificati Verdi for the Italian market
- Levy Exemption Certificates (LEC) for the UK market
- Belgian Green Certificates
- TÜV certificates
- Naturemade star/basic certificates
- OK-Power eligible certificates
- Label EVE (Electricité Verte)
