Alpiq in Sicily: a great wind power partnership

Successful Sicilian energy entrepreneur Salvatore Moncada is the initiator of the Rocca Rossa wind farm.
The Rocca Rossa wind farm in Sicily is the brainchild of Salvatore Moncada. The 45-year-old Sicilian is one of Italy's largest independent producers of electricity from renewable energies. And he has ambitious goals: By 2015 he is aiming to increase his company's generation of eco-friendly electricity to 1,900 MW. His aim is to combine electricity generation with the development and manufacture of environmental technology, to which end he is planning to build solar and wind power systems in two of his own factories from 2010.
Long-term collaboration with Alpiq
Salvatore Moncada is proud of the fact that a major Swiss company is investing in him. «If a company like Alpiq steps in, we must be doing something right,» he says. And he has good reason to be pleased: Alpiq is supporting his projects until at least 2011. «And we are hoping for a longer-term collaboration,» adds Martin Jöri of Alpiq's Renewable Energies Competence Centre.
