M&A Rinnovabili S. r. l. is building a 40 MW wind farm in the Agrigento region of Sicily. The plant is to start operating in the second half of 2010.

40 MW project to join the power grid in 2010

The Enpower 3 wind farm is being built around 20 km north-west of Agrigento, near Cattolica Eraclea, and will have a capacity of 40 MW. The plant is taking shape under the auspices of M&A Rinnovabili, a joint venture by Alpiq and the Moncada Energy Group. The wind turbines are to start generating electricity in the second half of 2010.

By constructing the wind farm in Cattolica Eraclea, Alpiq is extending its commitment to renewable energy. On Sicily alone, Alpiq already holds around 120 MW of wind-powered generating capacity. Sicily has major potential for exploiting energy from the wind, because wind conditions on the island are superior to the general European average.
