Alpiq in Milano

The Alpiq Group is involved in the Italian electricity market through various companies which produce and trade in energy and provide associated services.

Born from the one hundred years' experience of Atel AG, the Group has been in Italy since 1999 when the electric market started to liberalise. Today it benefits from thermal, hydroelectric and wind power plants as owner, partner and through tolling contracts, such as Edipower (a company in which Alpiq has a 20% stake) and which has almost 2,000 MW of installed power.

Alpiq Produzione Italia Management, the company which manages the Group's production facilities, works with Alpiq Energia Italia which trades in energy for major consumers and builds partnerships with a customised approach and a range of services including “energy & portfolio management”, whereby clients can monitor, on the www.alpiq.it site, their own energy consumption, see what they owe and receive constant updates.

In recent years the Group has evolved from a typical wholesale approach to a strategy including clients who are not known "energivores". This was the rationale behind the acquisition of Energit S.p.A. in 2006 (www.energit.it), a company based in Cagliari, Milan and Rome which operates in the SME sector.

The Italian connection of the Alpiq Group has recently been consolidated by an investment policy comprising acquisitions of stakes in strategic multi-utilities, A2A for example, and the acquisition of power plants (Novara, Vercelli and Biella), in cooperation with large industrial groups, as well as wind power plants in Sicily.

The services offered by Alpiq in Italy also include Alpiq InTec Milano and Alpiq InTec Verona, who install and maintain electrical and mechanical systems.
